Carleton's Women Legacy Adds Luster to Premier Events

One of the Women's Division's most successful programs became the second team to commit to all three Premier Events of the National Collegiate Ultimate Series. Carleton Syzygy attended Trouble In Vegas and Centex in 2007 on their way to a berth to the Nationals in Columbus. Their previous experience with Cultimate tournaments and the promise of seeing out-of-Region teams before Nationals drew them to compete in the entire NCUS.

Megan Molteni, senior Captain of Syzygy, will lead her team of returning stars and new recruits, some fresh from the Seattle/Carleton pipeline, through the NCUS. Though the trimester system at Carleton does not favor winter tournaments, with many students choosing to travel abroad to escape the harsh Minnesota winter, Carleton will send strong, athletic teams to each tournament who, more than perhaps any other team in the Nation, will be happy just to play outside at that time of year.

With the compressed Spring UPA Series this year, we feel it's of utmost importance to get to play competitively outdoors as much as possible, says Molteni.

While most other teams in the country get to play outside on full-size fields most of the year, we have to take every opportunity we can get to escape our basketball courts and get onto the grass. These tournaments give us that chance, as well as affording us some stellar teams to match up against.

Since Carleton advanced to the National Championship Game in 2004, it has been back to Nationals each of the last three seasons, playing in the Pre-Quarters each season, finally getting past that barrier last season with a 15-9 win over Delaware, after a 16-15 heartbreaker with Brown in 2005, and a 15-7 loss to Dartmouth in 2006. Carleton has yet to make a splashy appearance at either Trouble In Vegas or Centex, as they gear up each season at a run through the UPA College Series, but remains a dangerous team at any Event they attend.

NCUS 2008

The National Collegiate Ultimate Series unites the most competitive College Ultimate tournaments of the spring season into a cohesive Series. The NCUS was designed to enhance the sport's competitive structure and showcase the game's highest levels.

Participating teams will be awarded points based on their finishes at sanctioned events (see tournaments section for complete schedule), which will be used to determine the 2008 NCUS Final Rankings.

This website is an information resource for College Ultimate fans, media and others interested in how the NCUS system works. Please check this site regularly for news about the NCUS and its Championship Tournaments

Earning NCUS points:

Points will be awarded to all teams who qualify for the Championships Brackets at a Gold Level NCUS tournament, and the finalists of any Silver Level NCUS tournament.
